Sally Long completes Everest Marathon!
Well done to Sally who completed the marathon at Everest Base Camp!
There was a time limit of 12 hours and 30 minutes to complete the course. Sally crossed the finish line with just 15 minutes to spare and receive her finishers medal. Sally has admitted it was the hardest thing she has done. They started in snow and ice and Sally fell on the way to the start. Due to the terrain, it was mainly walking and a little running.
The night before the event, Sally was kept awake with the noise from nearby avalanches. Sally was also unable to load up on carbs for two days before the event due to altitude sickness. She is now recovering ahead of the trek back to Lukla.
Sally had a 10 day trek to the Everest base camp, where she spent two days. The marathon trail run from the base camp of Mount Everest to the “Sherpa capital” Namche Bazar. The Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon has been held annually on 29 May since 2003 to commemorate the anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary.
