Buddy

Buddy came into our care alongside five other Jack Russells, all in poor physical and mental condition. He was an incredibly frightened little boy who was terrified of people, other dogs and the world around him. It was clear that he had never really known the safety, love and kindness that every dog deserves.

Nobody knows exactly how old Buddy is, but he is certainly a senior boy. As a result of the conditions he experienced before coming into our care, he also has some mobility issues. Thankfully, this doesn’t stop him from getting around and enjoying himself, although when Buddy gets his zoomies, his back end doesn’t always quite keep up with his front! This can lead to him tumbling over, but he simply picks himself back up and carries on.

After spending time building his confidence and learning to trust, Buddy found his forever home. He was initially particularly terrified of men, making what happened next even more special. With patience, love and plenty of reassurance, Buddy formed an incredible bond with his new dad. The two are now completely inseparable, Buddy’s dad is now his safe place and they are quite simply the best of friends.

Buddy also has a little pug sister, Georgie, and the pair have a very typical brother-and-sister relationship — they absolutely adore each other, but they certainly know how to wind each other up! There’s plenty of love between them, mixed with the occasional squabble and a healthy dose of sibling rivalry. It wouldn’t be a proper family without it!

Today, Buddy is a cheeky, happy boy who never fails to make his family laugh. He still has his quirks and some things can be a little daunting for him, but seeing the transformation from the frightened little dog who first arrived at the rescue to the happy character he is today has been incredibly special. His journey is a beautiful reminder of what patience, compassion and a second chance can do.
